Clothes may not make the man...but they make a difference!

Dear Archbishop Timothy Dolan:

In you estimation, which is a more inspirational example (Sorry, no political-dodging here, you have to choose one or the other):

A blue jean, short sleeve, Birkenstock-wearing priest of all things convenient (who happens to have been appointed by you to work at the previously esteemed North American College), or....

A habit-wearing, basketball playing nun who works with orphan boys?

I can believe that Fr. Shecterle is a fine man, he was even a near the top finisher in the auxiliary bishop handicapper's race. But please...he is afraid to wear a collar even on Sunday morning to go say mass?

It's your choice Archbishop, make it now, or regret it later. (I realize that when you leave for New York, none of tis will matter to anyone except all the faithful you will leave behind.)

A hint: if Milwaukee gets an Auxiliary, Abp. Dolan may be on the way to another assignment--after a few years, of course.

Notice that there's a timeline here. Rome shows unhappiness by delaying a new appointment in Milwaukee...

Interesting take. Interestingly cryptic.

The problem I think from Rome's perspective: wouldn't Bishop Sklba be in charge in the interim?

So are you suggesting that the delay in an appointment is because of unhappiness in Archbishop Dolan's work specifically? I don't necessarily think that the suggestion is a leap of any kind, but I've heard the Auxiliary rumors for years - before Archbishop Dolan was even appointed.

I think it's accurate to say that RGW was begging for an Auxiliary and made his desires known.

Rome did not provide one for Rembert.

And Mike--Bp Sklba WAS 'in charge' between RGW and Abp Dolan. Far as I can tell, we're no worse off...

Hi Mike,
I was just introduced to your blog recently - very interesting!
Since you seem to have a handle on the Church in Milwaukee, I was wondering if you could recommend a good Parish for Families, one in which there are lively Masses and child-appropriate activites. I was involved in a Lutheran camp for kids recently. It was so child-friendly. My son came away with more understanding of and enthusiasm for Christianity in a week than he had from our Parish in a few years...I want to bring my children up in our Catholic Faith, but i would like it to become "alive" for them. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your time Mike!

I don't know all the parishes, probably not even a lot of them, but maybe other readers can help. What part of town do you live in?

Thanks for the response Mike. We are actually on the Southside, but would be willing to travel anywhere in town if any of your readers had suggestions.

I'm a size 14/16 and bought the 16. I'm always afraid of buying gowns online because of my larger size. But because of the price, I figured I had nothing to loose.
